Farm to School Trail Run and Family Wellness Fair – October 7, 2018

Sep 6, 2018 | Events, Support Kimberton

Thank you to all our sponsors, organizers, participants, vendors and volunteers for making this such a successful event.

We are so grateful for our network of friends and families who support us in our sustainable efforts.  We look forward to seeing you at next year’s event.

We invite you to participate in our Sixth Annual Farm to School Trail Run & Family Wellness Fair, on Sunday, October 7th, 2018. This year, we are focused on ‘Sustainability’ within the community and on campus.

The annual event will take place on Kimberton Waldorf School’s breathtaking 430 acre campus, located at 410 West Seven Stars Road, Phoenixville, PA.

Our improved French Creek Conservation Trail is a single loop 5k, taking you across protected fields and through beautiful hardwood forests, over dirt trails and tributaries, and along the peaceful French Creek. We will also offer an exciting double loop 10k course and relaxing 5k Nature Walk.

The entire Wellness Fair & Runs/Walk begins at 8:30 am in the HS Gym, which is when the Trail Runs & Walk Registration begins. The Free Kid’s Fun Run is at 9 am on the school Track, the 5k/10k Trail Runs & 5k Nature Walk begin at 10 am.

Free children’s activities begin at 10:20 am, hot Organic lunch for only $5, free post run massages, tons of free healthy snacks, raffles, adoptable animals from All 4 Paws Rescue, and a Mini-Farmer’s Market.  This year, we will have a live RAPTOR Meet & Greet by the John James Audubon Center, Audubon, PA at 8:30 am and 11:20 am!  Organic lunch begins around 10:45 am, we’ll have awards & raffles, and the Event informally ends around 12 pm.

Our theme is ‘Sustainability’ and we’ll be emphasizing Non-GMO foods, clean water & air, and healthy soils this year and supports our sustainable efforts on campus to promote environmental and clean water stewardship. Our school has 430 beautiful ‘green’ acres, and lease 350 protected acres to Seven Stars Farm who do not use pesticides or herbicides on the farmlands. We also lease 10 acres to Kimberton CSA who also grows “biodynamic and organic mixed vegetables”, across the street from school.

Our school has a two acre enclosed Organic Student Garden (and extensive organic gardening program, including a sun filled learning building and bluebird houses around the gardens). The students make everything from calendula salve, teas, dilly beans, red raspberry jam, brooms from corn, and apple butter.  Our campus fields & farmlands are herbicide & pesticide free, and we offer Organic lunches to our students. The PA Audubon has recognized our campus as a Certified Bird Habitat. Our students also participate in a composting program.  We are also blessed to have an ‘Exceptional Value’ water source bordering campus “French Creek”, and have created an educational & recreational “French Creek Conservation Trail” for students & school families. We open this breathtaking campus and adventurous trails to the public once a year … for our Annual 5k/10k Trail Runs, 5k Nature Walk, and Kid’s Fun Run!!

In 2016, we co-hosted this annual event with Orion Communities, Phoenixville, PA. They are a 501c3 Non-Profit (so are we), and only a few miles away from our school. Phoenixville borders Kimberton, and a number of our neighbors either volunteer, donate, or apply for assistance with Orion Communities. They provide assistance to families, single adults, and single mothers in need of the most basic assistance; food, clothing, employment, furniture, and social interaction. —This year, we’re striving to continue our engagement of Community Wellness in the spirit of giving and kindness. Orion Communities in Phoenixville, provides assistance to families, single adults, and single mothers in need of the most basic assistance; food, groceries, clothing, employment, furniture. We are please that they will be at the Wellness Event this year, collecting food & clothing.   Together we will raise awareness for the hungry & homeless in our communities!!

Same day Registration available (no T-shirt guarantee).

This is a wonderful community event; please consider providing a donation for a sponsorship. Proceeds will benefit the Kimberton Waldorf School Community Spirit Fund.   Become a Sponsor or Donate
