Spring 2015

We've got some exciting news to share with the Kimberton Waldorf School community! You'll be seeing a new face at the Seven Stars Shop this spring and hopefully you'll notice a lot of beautiful new items for sale as well. KWS parent Susan Grissett will be assisting with the operations and running our lovely school store. Susan will be focused on developing the consignment portion of the store and will also be bringing a series of classes to the community that relate to the store in one way or another. Susan has a love for handwork and a passion and energy for supporting our school. We are grateful to have her join the team. You will find her there on Friday mornings during the coffee cart. Anyone interested in consigning with the store should contact her at .

The shop offers a wide array of Waldorf-minded retail items and also many consigned items. We love the consignment concept for the Shop because it is model of exactly what we appreciate so much about our community. With consignment, we offer talented and creative people in our community a place to shine and sell their wares, and we offer unique, one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items to our customers. Our customers appreciate the beauty and quality in these handmade items and often they sell quickly, which supports both the craftsmen and the school.

For those of you who are new to our community this year, or those who just need a reminder, here's a little background about the Seven Stars Shop. Where is it? The Seven Stars Shop is located in a magically transformed closet in the entry way to the gymnasium. Due to the small space, things are just a little bit different each and every time it is open; with new merchandise added and seasonal items that pop up, it's like visiting the store for the first time every time you come! We strive to provide a wide range of things: some practical like pencils, crayons, sharpeners, yarn, and knitting needles; and some that make wonderful gifts like Waldorf dolls, wooden toys, beeswax candles, and handmade knitted items. We've got a great selection of books for children and adults that are here to support your journey with a Waldorf Education. Another unique thing about the Shop is that it is 100% volunteer run. (We are proud to say we've got some amazing volunteers!) This allows for all of the profits from the Shop to be given back to the school for continued support of the curriculum and special classes that we offer. Please don't forget, when you shop at the school store, you are also supporting the school financially, and each little bit adds up and truly counts.

This year, the store is open on Mondays and Wednesdays after school (2:45-3:30 pm), Friday mornings during the coffee cart (8:00-9:15 am), and also on special school-wide events (May Faire, the annual craft show, open houses, etc.)

We look forward to seeing you all at the Seven Stars Shop soon!

Winter 2014

The Seven Stars Shop is ready for the winter and holiday season! Here is a partial list of things we have in stock:

Seccorell Shading Sticks now come in three sizes. A large kit for the true artist or a family, a medium set and a small set in a tube that is perfect to keep in your child's desk. This makes a great gift for a middle or high school-aged child.

We are proud to carry Avena Botanicals products. They are a small biodynamic company with high-quality herbal products. Some great items for the winter are:

Heal-All Salve, for dry chapped lips or skin.
Cherry Flavored Echinacea, a great tasting immune support for children and adults.
Sacred Basil, an adaptogen that helps the body function optimally during times of stress. This is a nice herb for women.
Passionflower is great for the nervous system, and when you just can't seem to turn off your brain and forget about your “to do” list.

All of our herbal remedies are in glycerin and taste delicious (and are great for children)!

If you are a crafter or handworker, we have supplies for you! We have different colors of wool felt, needle felting wool, needles and foam pads. We have needle felting kits and crafting kits for children as well. We also have large and small star paper as well as books that explain how to make them. We have Lamb's Pride yarn, needles and crochet hooks. We also have wool batting.

Please check out our ever-evolving and changing inventory of books. Our latest shipment just arrived!

Our Mercurius order is here, so we are fully stocked with school and art supplies. In stock now are main lesson books, colored pencil sets in many different sizes (these also make great gifts!) pencil grips, pencil sharpeners, wooden fountain pens, etc.

We have plenty of natural toys of all kinds: knitted fruits and vegetables, wooden slingshots, cars and trucks, tangrams, handmade and seasonal dolls, birthday ring figures, gnomes, fairy wands, play silks, play clips, mobiles, new Ostheimer figures and more!

We are also carrying herbal teas, handmade brooms, an assortment of beeswax candles, handmade tea light candle holders, beeswax candle making kits, children's snack/breakfast boards, beeswax polish, hand sewn lavender owls, gemstones, modeling beeswax, decorating beeswax, wooly pants, felted soaps...and the list could go on!

The Seven Stars Shop now carries Kimberton Waldorf School t-shirts and sweatshirts in vintage font. We have cotton beanies for winter too! Any student or parent would appreciate receiving these as a gift. There are also leftover Trail Run t-shirts in all sizes for only $5.00 each.

By shopping at our school store, you are supporting the Kimberton Waldorf Community and most importantly, our students. The shop hours are Monday and Wednesday after school (from 2:45 to 3:30 pm) and Friday mornings during the coffee cart from 8:00 to 9:15 am. During the holiday season, we will also be open after the Grandparents Day assembly and after the Advent Teas, and of course, during our annual Craft Fair (December 5 and 6.) If you would like to shop and you are not able to be here during those hours, please email Tara at sevenstarsshop@yahoo.com. Have a beautiful holiday and winter season!

Fall 2014

The Seven Stars Shop is offering a significant discount on selected natural white woolen for children. Order forms were sent home with Rosebud through Third Grade. Pricing can been seen on the order forms. You may order other things from www.Danishwool.com (there is a place on the order form for you to indicate your selections) but they would be sold at the retail price as indicated on their website. If you would like to order, but don't have an order form, you can pick one up at the Shop or in the Middle School office or download one below. Completed order forms can be dropped off at the Seven Stars Shop when the Shop is open, or left in the Middle School Office. August 2014

Dear Kimberton Waldorf Community,

I'm writing to share with you the success of The Seven Stars Shop! We had a very successful year in our new location. Last year we were able to downsize significantly to make room for the new Handwork room and reopen in a large closet in the gymnasium lobby! It was a challenge, but the new store is small and beautiful and still able to carry many of the same Waldorf essentials as the old store did. We were in a great location for KWS's annual Craft Fair in December and made quite a profit. (Once we have enough inventory, all profits will be given to the school.) We were also able to be open for school-wide events such as the basketball tournament, community dinners, Advent Teas, May Faire, assemblies and the fifth grade Pentathlon, and served as a last-minute stop for birthday gifts, weekend projects and school supplies.

For those of you who are new to the school, you may be wondering what the Seven Stars Shop is. The Seven Stars Shop is an all-volunteer run store for the purpose of supporting and serving the Kimberton Waldorf School community. The Shop carries books of all sorts for the natural-minded family, art supplies, children's natural and imaginative toys, biodynamic herbal products, craft kits and handwork supplies, gemstones, and beautiful handmade items. For the coming school year, the hours of operation are Monday and Wednesday after school (2:45 to 3:30) and Friday mornings during the coffee cart (8:00-9:30). Our hope is to be able to be open every day after school as more volunteers join our team.

The first day we will be open this year is before and after the Rose Ceremony on Friday, September 5th. We are excited to announce that this year we will have KWS retro sweatshirts, T-shirts, and beanies in both adult and child sizes. We will also have KWS car magnets. As an opening day special, if you buy something from our new apparel line, you get a KWS car magnet for free. Stop by and check them out!

The purpose of this letter is to not only give you some information about the Shop, but to also ask for your help on a few things:

o    Are you an artisan who may have some items you'd like to consign?

o    Are you someone who is good with a sewing machine and could make some specific items for the store? (I have a few things in mind as well as some customer requests)

o    Would you like to join our team of volunteers for the school store?

o    Is there something you would like to see carried in our store? One of our best sellers of last year was Seccorell Shading Sticks (which can make a Main Lesson book look beautiful in a matter of minutes!). This was carried because of a request from two teachers (thank you, Sally Boyd and Anna Zay!).

If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, please e-mail me at . In conclusion, I'd like to thank everyone who supported the Seven Stars Shop last year. By doing your shopping at our school store you are not only supporting our school, but more importantly you are supporting our children and our community.

November 2013

The Seven Stars Shop grand opening was a success! Many people came to shop or just say hello and see the new space in the Parent Hub (lobby of the Gymnasium). The shop is open every Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The shop will also be open on Sunday, November 10 from 12:30 to 4:00 pm during the All-School Open House.

There may be some times that we also open unexpectedly. This weekend we had such a great turnout at the 5K Trail Run that we decided to open and had many people shop!

Did you know the Seven Stars Shop accepts donations of Waldorf inspired toys, books, etc in good condition? We also accept Waldorf-inspired toys on consignment. In the shop now we have never-been-used tree blocks, a wooden stable, and a Waldorf doll that is currently on consignment. This is a great way to recycle high quality, well-loved toys and to help the school at the same time.

Have you been thinking about holiday shopping? Please consider doing your holiday shopping at the Seven Stars Shop. We will be placing an order to Elves and Angels in the beginning of December.  Elves and Angels carries beautiful, made in Maine, wooden kitchens, play stands, doll houses, etc. They are a great company! If you place an order through the Seven Stars Shop, you will get free shipping and 10% off your order. You will have a beautiful holiday gift for your child and you'll be supporting the school at the same time. Please look at the website and stop by the store to place an order or email Tara at

A customer shared that they have had their Elves and Angels kitchen in their living room for 11 years and it still gets played with!  It's a beautiful heirloom to save for grandchildren too!  Orders are due Monday, December 9.

October 2013

Join us on Friday, November 1 for the Seven Stars Shop Grand Opening. We will be in our new space in the Parent Hub. Hours will be 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The Coffee Cart will be happening too, so have a cup of coffee or tea and do some shopping or just stop in to browse and say hello. You'll see some Waldorf essentials and new inventory, too!

September 2013

The Pay-As-You-Wish sale raised $600.00 for the new Seven Stars Shop! The money will be used to buy new inventory for the shop, which will be opening on November 1. Thank you to everyone who came to the sale and found some "treasures" to take home. There are still some books left over that are on the bookshelf in the Parent Hub. They are free to a good home! Your donations are greatly appreciated and will help the store so much in it's early start up phase. Tara appreciates everyone's kind words, encouragement, and support.

August 2013

Dear KWS Parents,

I'm excited to announce the launch of the new Seven Stars Shop. I wanted to introduce myself for those of you who don't know me. My son, Alek, is in sixth grade, I have a daughter, Eva, who is in third grade at Beaver Run and also Grace who will turn one in September (a future Kimberton Waldorf student!). The school store is something that has always been very close to my heart. When my son was three I attended an open house at the Waldorf School of Princeton. When I visited their store and saw what they stocked I knew there was something different and special about the school. I saw beeswax, herbal remedies, woolens, imaginative play items. I could sense they had a very unique and holistic approach to educating children. Many pieces of what a Waldorf Education is came together for me in that one small room!! Reflecting back on my early years as a parent I realize the school store provided me with information and an understanding of Anthroposophy, an opportunity to connect with other like-minded parents, a way to have our home life support the education my son was receiving at school, and also a way to support the school through my purchases.

When I heard the Seven Stars Shop was closing in June I felt sad that our school would be losing something that I believe provides such value and a service to our community. But under my disappointment and sadness I felt some inspiration too! I asked the Governing Team if I could take on starting a new Seven Stars Shop in a different location since the old space was becoming the new lower school handwork room. They said yes! The new Seven Stars Shop will be a smaller store to begin with and will have a more concentrated inventory of Waldorf essentials. It will  also continue to carry beautiful handmade items. It's on track to open in November just in time for holiday shopping. Until then I will be working on stocking inventory and getting it set up in the new space. It will be located in the Parent Hub. The shop will be in the area that was used to store musical instruments and when the Seven Stars Shop is open it will flow out into the foyer. It will be open Fridays (with the coffee cart) and on special school events (assemblies, community dinners, etc.).

I am considering this school year a transition year as it changes hands and business models. At the new Seven Stars Shop the money that you spend will go towards supporting the school. If there is anything you'd like to see carried in the shop please let me know. I can also place special orders. I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions!

In closing, I ask you to please consider supporting Kimberton Waldorf School and purchase locally through the Seven Stars Shop to benefit our community and ultimately, and most importantly, our children.
